1985 - Lot 27
1985 SPERONI R1500 Type : Racer 3 points Length : 4,60 m Width : 2,14 m Weight : 350 kg Number of seat(s) : 1 Engine : Alfa Romeo 1500 Type : 4 cylinders in line Displacement : 1,5 l. Power : approx. 140 hp. When the driver Bruno Ganassi took delivery of his new R1500 racer at Ivo Speroni in Boretto Po in 1985, it was equipped with a Lancia engine. It had the race number 47 and was immediately one of the most competitive cars on the grid. The front section of the fairing is reminiscent of the lines of the Ferrari F1 cars of the mid-1980s, but of course without the aerodynamic intake at mid-height, which is impossible to use on the water. In 1988, this red racer won the coveted Pavia-Venezia 1500 class. The boat stayed in the family for the following seasons and Antonio Ganassi took over. He called on the "wizard of Boretto" to replace the Lancia engine with a four-cylinder Alfa Romeo, still in the R1500 class. He then wears the number 9 and participates twice in the traditional Pavia-Venezia. In 1990, a third pilot settles in the bucket of this Speroni R1500. Fabrizio Benzi, who wears the number 16, ranks 3rd in his category in the highly competitive Trofeo Due Ponti, on the Po River in the same year. In 1991, the driver Luigi Avanzini - number 23 - closes the sporting career in official championship of this boat, the R1500 category being gradually abandoned in favor of the R2000. The boat is kept for a while at its manufacturer's, then Jean Van Praet, to complete his collection of Speroni hulls, buys it, seduced by its pure forms, its compactness, its agility and its performance.
