1960 ROCCA Competition-record Type : Dinghy... - Lot 9 - Osenat

When Domenico Rocca arrived in France from his native Italy in the early 1920s, wood was king in the yachting industry but not only. He became a foreman at Chauvière, the large manufacturer of aircraft propellers based in Vitry-sur-Seine, which also produced canoes and boats. In 1928, Domenico went into business for himself, remaining in the same township with a solid technical background and specializing in canoeing. After the war, with his sons Oreste and Louis, Rocca extended his offer with a range of outboard hulls which he began to produce in polyester. Between 1954 and 1960, the entire production of Rocca dinghies switched from wood to fiberglass. With his simple but extremely efficient hulls, Oreste Rocca broke numerous world speed and endurance records, not to mention an impressive record in championships and grand prix such as Monaco. He was at the top of the rankings for several seasons in a row until the early 1960s. At the same time, Orestes was also a star of the TV game show La Tête et les Jambes presented live by Pierre Bellemare to "make a time" and help a candidate who had failed a questionnaire to win the stake of 100,000 new francs in front of millions of homes at the time of greatest audience. The copy presented here is of the same series as the boat of the construction site piloted by Orestes to save the candidate of La Tête et les Jambes. It is worth noting that its windshield is integrated into the hull, as some earlier boats were equipped with a windshield before it was finally adopted. Very adaptable to different powers, this type of hull was raced in different categories according to the engine capacity and produced for other pilots such as Jean Suttel who raced in the 1000cc X class with compressor. The boat proposed here is equipped with a Mercury 50 hp outboard from 1965. Its complete restoration has been done in colors chosen to pay tribute to the great champion that was Oreste Rocca.
