HANGING LAMP in gilded bronze representing "Belisaire making the alms". General Belisarius, dressed in a long toga, sitting on a white marble mound, is represented as an old man, blind, his arms stretched out in front of him, begging desperately for alms. Facing him, his young guide standing with a long stick, leaning against a post containing the enamelled dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, decorated with a bas-relief where Belisarius, seated against a background of architecture, receives the honors from his former soldiers. It is surmounted by a military trophy with sword, quiver, laurel wreath and shield and rests on a green Levanto marble base decorated with a chiseled bas-relief where Belisarius is witnessing the death of his wife. Empire period (restorations) Height : 51 cm 51 cm ; Width : 46 cm A clock of identical model was sold in Paris, Hôtel Drouot on October 19, 2012 under the n° 218, another example with a white marble base appeared in a sale on May 4, 2022 n°51.
