Georg von Koch largely follows the order of the only published work on the subject, Henry Simon's L'Armorial général de l'Empire français (1812). High official at the Ministry of the Interior and member of the Secret Council of the Duchy of Brunswick, BARON GEORG VON KOCH (1790-1861) COLLECTED AN IMMENSE HERALD AND GENEALOGICAL COLLECTION (books, seals and armorial stamps) and, as an excellent draughtsman, he personally drew up several armorials that he had nicely bound. He also had a passion for conchyliology, and built up a huge collection of shells. The heraldic and genealogical part of his library was dispersed at auction in France in 1862, the present manuscript appearing under n° 354 of the catalog established for the occasion by the Tross bookshop.
