1960 CITROEN ID 19 CABRIOLET CROISETTE
Serial number: 3104993 Henri Chapron bodywork In very good condition Same owner since 1972 About fifteen produced  French collector's title From 1955 and for 20 years, Citroën produced one of its most beautiful cars: the DS. The great replacement for the Traction, this new car is distinguished first and foremost by its style. The bodywork was both elegant and slender, and the car was packed with automotive technology: power-assisted disc brakes at the front, a hydraulic gearbox, power steering and driving comfort thanks to the brand's own hydropneumatic suspension. The presentation of this The presentation of this futuristic-looking car thrilled spectators and the press at the Paris Motor Show. However, one of the spectators was surprised that there was no convertible version. So in 1958, by mutual agreement with Citroën, Henri Chapron, the famous coachbuilder, unveiled his own convertible version on his stand at the same show. The Chapron Convertible was born! It was a runaway success, so much so that Citroën agreed with the coachbuilder to produce so-called "factory convertibles". While the brand based on Quai de Javel adopted a strategy of spreading out the range (ID version, Estate, Le Dandy coupé, etc.), the DS cabriolet was no exception to this rule. Several versions of this car were proposed in collaboration with Chapron. Among them, the Palm Beach cabriolet and its four seats, then its Concorde coupé version. But one of the most exceptional versions of this DS cabriolet remains the La Croisette version. It was this version that was presented on the Chapron stand in 1958. For this first version, the cabriolet uses the wings of the saloon. The separation between these wings and the rest of the bodywork was visible the first year. It was later hidden by a chrome strip. Following this transformation, the rear wings will receive a notch, making the line more graceful. For the third series, from the 1960 model year onwards, the rear wing extends from the door to the rear bumper in one piece. The chrome trim disappears but the indentation remains. The car we offer for sale is series produced in 1960. It looks good, in its charcoal grey colour with light grey underbody. The whole is elegantly dressed with a black bonnet in excellent condition. The chrome strips extending from the front lights to the doors are in good condition, topped by the inscription La Croisette. You will also find the Henri Chapron badge behind the front wheel arches. The red leather interior is also in excellent condition and contrasts beautifully with the exterior paint. The bonnet cover is also red. The gold dashboard adds a futuristic touch. As for the powertrain, it is the 4 cylinder 1.9L that takes place in this magnificent body. During the restoration, the owner installed a DS19 engine coupled to a hydraulic gearbox. The mechanics work normally. The soft top hoops are not original. The current owner bought this car in May 1972 and took care of its restoration.  This unusual convertible has become mythical and is a rare item on the market: only about fifteen were produced! Its elegant dress will charm anyone who comes across it. To go for a walk in the forest or on the Côte d'Azur, this car is perfect for a stroll with two or four people. Still a little rarer each year, this cabriolet is just waiting to be driven!
