HANGER representing the "King Charles Savior", in gilt bronze, the child lying in a cradle with reversed bedside decorated with acanthus leaves, a frieze of openwork palmettes and a large openwork braid in simulated fishnet in which is inscribed the enamelled dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic for the minutes, supported by girdle feet ended by claws. The dog saves the child attacked by a snake in patinated bronze. It rests on a rectangular base with a chiseled degree of stylized papyrus and four runners. Empire period (small wear to the gilding, snake to be reattached) H: 40 - W: 34 - D: 13 cm Provenance: Jean LEFEVRE Collection (1908- 1965), architect. An identical clock is reproduced in "French Bronze Clocks 1700-1830" by Elke Niehüser, Munich 1999, p.223, n°555.
