Preaching pulpit bed, the right sides, in mahogany and mahogany veneer, the uprights in columns surmounted by covered vases and capitals decorated with palmettes, in partially gilt bronze. It rests on wooden casters probably olive wood and has an unidentified fire mark. Empire period (two vases to be refixed). H : 151 - W : 202,5 - D : 146,5 cm Bedding - W : 177 - D : 120 cm Provenance : Former collection of the castle of Douy and remained in the descent of the family until today As attested by the account 1 of the owners of the castle in 1827 and present at the time when Jerome Bonaparte, king of Westphalia under the name of Mr. Garnier and unaccompanied by a whole suite, finds refuge in this domain after the hundred days. The prince stays in the room where this bed is part of the furnishings. "The convenient position of the castle of Douy, in the middle of a very extended land seemed to me to be appropriate for the purpose that one proposed to himself....The luggage of the king of Westphalia was dispatched to Douy and the prince arrived in the evening, without a suite and under the name of Mr. Garnier, a merchant...several days passed in the middle of the eager care of my brother towards the solitary traveler, plunged in a dark mood increased by the isolation...because a great movement of the ...obliged the prince to keep strictly the room and to take also his meals there.
