His work can be compared to that of Louis-Léopold Boilly, for his taste for modern subjects and for picturesque details. He won his first medal at the 1819 Salon. In 1824, Auguste Xavier Leprince stayed with Eugène Isabey in Honfleur. At the 1824 Salon, the Duchess of Berry bought The Skaters and at the 1826 Salon, Charles X became the owner of two paintings, The Embarkation of Cattle in the Passage to Honfleur and The Passage to Susten. Our two paintings date from a year before his death from a chest illness. The Salon of 1827 will pay homage to him.
