CUP (TORQUATO TASSO, SAID THE). Lettera inedita. Milano, per Giovanni Pirotta, 1816. In-8, 14-(2 blanks) pp, bradel paper boards, gilt edges, framed with a gilt frieze of oak leaf scrolls underlined by a fillet of gilt lozenges, gilt coat of arms in the center and gilt iron crown in the spandrels, renewed endpapers, date of title scratched out to suggest a reading of "1810" (binding circa 1806-1814, here in reback). ORIGINAL EDITION of this letter from Tasso to Cardinal Albani. From the Milanese journal Biblioteca italiana ossia Giornale di letteratura scienze ed arti (No. 1, 1816), edited by the writer and archaeologist Giuseppe Acerbi. BINDING TO THE ARMORIA OF EUGENE DE BEAUHARNAIS AS VICE KING OF ITALY (OHR, pl. no. 2671, which lists the armorial iron under no. 2, but says nothing about the iron crown).
