THE IMPERATRESS JOSEPHINE Fine batiste handkerchief embroidered at both corners of the figure of Josephine under imperial crown surrounded by laurel leaves of flowers, the other corners are embroidered with a double row of frieze of flowers embroidered to day 64 x 64 cm. B.E. Small rust stains. First Empire period. History: In 1814, there were 579 handkerchiefs in the Empress's wardrobe, including 298 in batiste, some with pleats and festoons, others with picot à jours and 70 embroidered.
