KINGDOM OF WESTPHALIA ORDER OF THE CROWN OF WESTPHALIA Dignitary dress plate in canetille, sequins and silver lamé (traces of gilding). Silver center, in several parts Legend on blue enamel background (chips) "CHARAKTER UND AUFRICHTIGKEIT" (Character and honesty) Reverse side with old label in pen "Jerome Westphalia" Diam: 85 mm T.B. Manufacture of the Second Empire. In the middle stand an eagle and a lion leaning and crowned by a single crown. On the right side of the lion, is the horse of Westphalia, on the left side of the eagle, is the lion of Cassel. The whole is surmounted by the imperial eagle crowned and carried on its thunderbolt, on which is written: "I UNITE THEM." The whole in an ouroboros. History: Decided upon in July 1808, the creation of a Westphalian order by the young King Jerome Napoleon proved to be extremely difficult, given the reluctance of his brother, Emperor Napoleon I. It was not until 1810 that the insignia were issued. King Jerome, very attached to this order, continued to wear it during the Second Empire.
