MURAT (Joachim). Letter signed "J Napoleon"... - Lot 27 - Osenat
MURAT (Joachim). Letter signed "J Napoleon" as king of Naples, addressed to king Frederick VI of Denmark. Naples, October 8, 1811. 1/2 p. in-4, address on the back, red wax armorial seal on pink silk lakes, trace of old printed notice in the lower margin, on the address sheet, two cracks due to the closing system and a lack of paper due to the restored opening. "Mister brother, we received with great pleasure the letter that Your Majesty was kind enough to address to us to inform us of the happy deliverance of His Serene Highness Madam Princess Charlotte, wife of His Serene Highness Prince William of Hesse, and of the birth of a princess. Thanking Your Majesty for the notification she has been kind enough to give us of this happy event, we ask her to be convinced of the interest we take in everything that can contribute to her personal happiness, and that of her royal family, as well as our sincere wishes for her constant prosperity..." Charlotte of Denmark was a cousin of King Frederick VI of Denmark, and her husband William of Hesse-Cassel was the uncle of the Queen of Denmark, Mary of Hesse-Cassel. FREDERIC VI WAS A FRIENDLY ALLIANCE OF NAPOLEON I - he had to suffer the bombardment of Copenhagen by the British Navy in 1807, and the amputation of part of his territory in 1814. Provenance: collection of the Earls of Crawford and Balcarres, Alexander William and James Ludovic Lindsay (armorial bookplate stamped Bibliotheca Lindesiana).
