THE BIRTH OF PRINCE CURMER. - BIRTH AND BAPTISM. XVI March - XVI June MDCCCLVI. S. A. Imperial Monseigneur Napoleon, Eugène - Louis - Jean - Joseph, Imperial Prince. Paris, L. Curmer, [1856], large in - 8 (264x 180 mm) of [2] ff, 142 pp, [1] f, contemporary binding in green chagrin, cold filleting, spine decorated with cold fillets, lining and endpapers in white moire, edges gilt (L. Curmer). Very rare collection, printed by Léon Curmer in small number, at the expense of the Emperor. It contains poems written to celebrate the coming into the world of the Imperial Prince. Among the poets inspired by this birth, we find Théophile Gautier, Camille Doucet, the inevitable Barthélemy and several authors who wanted to mark their emotion. - Ornaments engraved in the text and framed on each page. The collection was offered by Napoleon III to the main servants of the regime. "The binding and the endpapers, more or less rich, varied according to the rank and the grade" (Vicaire, VI, 22).
