SEVRES HENRI CHAPU (1833-1891) " Le président Sadi Carnot " Sèvres cookie bust signed " Chapu " on the right side and bearing an oblong Sèvres manufacture stamp used from 1847 to 1899. Engraved on the front " CARNOT President of the Republic ". Our copy comes from the direct descent of the famous sculptor. Height : 46 cm . A.B.E. some lacks on the base. Biography : Pupil of James Pradier from 1849 and then, after his death in 1852, of Francisque Duret and Léon Cogniet at the École des beaux-arts de Paris, he won, successively, in 1851, the second grand prix de Rome in medal engraving and fine stone for Neptune giving birth to a horse, in 1853. In 1869, Henri Chapu reconstituted in the marble courtyard of the Palace of Versailles, the statues Mars at rest by Gaspard Marsy and Hercules at rest by François Girardon forming, as an allegory of Louis XIV victorious, the decorative set framing the clock of the central pavilion.
