TAPESTRY OF FELLETIN (FRANCE, REGION OF CREUSE NEAR AUBUSSON). END XVIIEME BEGINNING XVIIIEME CENTURY. The abduction of Persephone by Hades. In wool and silk. 280 cm x 280 cm In good condition. Some restorations of maintenance. Persephone, daughter of Zeus (supreme god, King of the gods) and Demeter (goddess of agriculture and harvest), is the goddess of the underworld. She is also the companion of Hades, son of Cronos and Rhea, who ruled the underworld and the dead. Hades fell in love with Persephone and kidnapped her from the plain of Enna in Sicily (at least this is the most generally accepted place). The couple can be seen on a chariot pulled by a cerberus (a three-headed dog from Greek mythology, guardian of the underworld), surrounded by lush vegetation, and trees with hanging birds. Large border with garlands of flowers surrounded by basins and baskets of floral arrangements.
