1963 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKII BJ7
1963 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKII BJ7 Serial number 20203 Nice cosmetic condition Important mechanical preparation Same owner since 1981 Complete photo restoration file French title The quintessence of a niche market, the "Big Healey" range at Austin Healey was born in 1953 and quickly distinguished itself from the competition by placing itself in the middle of two worlds; between the light convertibles and the imposing roadsters that are not very accessible to the general population. Magnified by an elegant bodywork halfway between an MG-A and an Aston Martin DB MKIII, the Austin Healey 100 embarks a rudimentary but solid mechanics: a 4-cylinder engine of 2,6L of displacement developing 90 horses in the first versions of the roadster. At the dawn of the 1960s, the 100 range was topped by an in-line 6-cylinder version in order to bring flexibility to this engine, all in a characteristic sound. The 100s were followed by the 3000s, which had the same bodywork and the engine block of the 100-6, redesigned to 3.0L with a small gain in power. Following the fashion and the demand to drive more and more successful sports cars, the Austin Healey 3000 will gradually become more sophisticated with the appearance of fixed windows, a fixed hood and a radio (optional). With 150 horsepower at the end of the 1960s, the Austin Healey 3000 is a perfect success of style and mechanics for an affordable price at the time. Driving an Austin Healey is an exhilarating experience during which many heads will turn as you pass. The story of this car could have been the story of an amateur restoring his Healey to enjoy it on sunny days, but it is not so. The current owner (Mr. P.) bought this 1963 Austin Healey 3000 MKII in the early 1980's in a poor aesthetic and mechanical condition where some body parts had been replaced by polyester. Anxious to put his car back in the best possible aesthetic condition, he started a major restoration project where the body was dismantled and sent to a specialist. During this time, Mr. P. decided to take care of this famous inline 6-cylinder with engine preparation of an MKIII: cleaning the bottom part of the engine, performing a surface treatment on the crankshaft and changing the original overhead camshaft to a racing one. The gearbox will also be rebuilt in England. Once the body was back, Mr. P. took care of reassembling the whole roadster himself and could enjoy a clear increase of power as well as a sound accentuated by a stainless-steel exhaust system. Mr. P.'s real mistress, his Austin Healey filled him with happiness for more than 40 years alongside other myths of the English automobile; our meeting with this frank character was particularly moving and we thank him for his transmission of passion.
