BRIDGE COMMODE in rosewood opening to four drawers on three - Lot 122
BRIDGE COMMODE in rosewood opening to four drawers on three rows, the top of Campan marble resting on rounded uprights finished by small cambered feet joined by an apron widely scalloped upwards with gilt bronze border, ornamentation of gilt bronzes with falls, entries of lock, handles and sabots, (small accidents and restorations). Regency period. H : 84 cm, W : 106 cm, D : 59 cm The very indented shape at the top where the traditional apron is located, although it is the main characteristic of this chest of drawers, does not allow us to decide definitively on its authorship. It was first found by Etienne Doirat, notably on a stamped chest of drawers sold in Monaco at Sotheby's on May 3, 1977 (the falls with a woman's mask typical of Doirat) as well as on a chest of drawers sold in Paris, study Ader, June 24, 2016 attributed to Doirat, but also on a chest of drawers with an illegible stamp (and another of Courtois) sold in Monaco at Sotheby's on June 20, 1992, lot 652, and on a fourth chest of drawers with women's heads sold in Bourg en Bresse on May 26, 1991. It is however interesting to note that the gilded bronzes which decorate the commode presented correspond more readily to the repertoire of François Lieutaud (see notably for the same keyhole entries, sale in Monaco, Sotheby's, November 30, 1986, lot 1012, as well as the sale in Paris, study Nicolaÿ, May 30, 1975, lot 112).
