IMPORTANT SET OF SOUVENIRS FROM GENERAL CLAUDE MARIE LEBLEY (1754-1833) including : -Pair of flintlock pistols of officer's half-stick. Round barrels with flats to the thunders, engraved to the thunders of symbols said "to the three orders" (the ecclesiastical stick having been replaced by a rake, undoubtedly by conviction), with remainders of decoration with gold, of which an inscription "LIBERTE EGALITE" on the one. Flat-bodied plates and round-bodied hammers. Patinated iron fittings. Walnut stocks (a small chip and a crack). Iron ramrod (one missing). A.B.E. -Sword of officer of staff to the regulation of Vendémaire AN XII. Fusée entirely watermarked with silver. Brass mounting, pommel with empanelled helmet, one branch guard, two quillons and bivalve shell. Node of body to the helmet on bundle of flags. Blade with median flattened, engraved, gilded and blued in the third with decoration of flowered trophies and cabalistic symbols. Leather scabbard with two brass fittings, and two suspension rings (missing the bolt). A.B.E. (Wear and small oxidations on the blade) Consulate period. -Strong general's sword. Ebony handle, watermarked (cracked). Brass mounting, urn-shaped pommel engraved on the obverse with a shield with a flaming spindle loaded with lightning bolts and on the reverse with a floral motif. Guard with one branch decorated with spheres, straight quillon with scroll. Horizontal keyboard cut out, in shield, with decoration of leafy frieze. Beautiful straight blade with flat back and hollow sides engraved, gilded and blued in the third with scrolls and a cartouche "VRYHEID GELYKHEID EN BROEDERSCHAP" (Liberty, Equality and Fraternity in Dutch). With a later leather scabbard (broken, missing), with two brass fittings (one missing). Bouterole engraved with dotted line "Juste Fourbr rue Honoré près celle des poulies." A.B.E. Interesting set of 25 documents related to the life and career of the general: -Copy of the general's birth certificate. -Captain's certificate for the citizen Claude Lebley, then lieutenant of the 6th artillery regiment. On vellum. Made in November 1792. Signature of the minister Bouchotte. -Patent for a medal of vetérance in the name of sergeant major Le Bley. On vellum. October 12, 1793. Signature of Bouchotte. -Brevet de général de brigade for citizen Claude Lebley, then captain (!) of the 6th artillery regiment. On vellum. Done on 5 frimaire Year 2. Signed by the minister Bouchotte. -Beautiful request of service of the brigadier general Lebley to the executive board on 24 fructidor An V. Reformed after his wounds received at the battle of Rivoli, Lebley asks again to serve, accompanied by testimonies of his leaders Chérin, Berruyer, Dommartin and Augereau. -Copy of a service record for retirement application. -Copy of his service record for the year XI. Lebley received a saber from General Hoche -Copies of orders from General Vialle commanding the army of the Cherbourg coasts and letters related to the army of the Cherbourg coasts. -Victory. Relation of the affairs which took place from the 19th of Nivôse to the 27th of the said month, year 5 of the Republic" by the divisional general Alexandre Berthier. Notebook of 9 printed pages. -Minute of a letter sent to the Minister of War on January 5, 1815 about his request for a new patent of the order of Saint Louis. His patent and his cross received in 1792 having been recovered in 1793 by a revolutionary committee. -Minute of a second letter of patent of Knight of Saint Louis, April 25, 1814. -Certificate in the hand of the general stipulating that having bought his cross of Saint Louis with his own money, his heirs will not be forced to send it back to the Minister of War. -Copy of the order of Xbre 1814 on the restitution of the crosses of Saint Louis. -Patent of officer of the Legion of Honor of the Restoration period. On vellum. Done on December 11, 1819. -Text of four pages in the hand of the general entitled "Human Vicissitude", in which he develops his reflections on the difficulties to grow old and the annoyances that his family gives him. -Proof of pension following his death. -Copy of the certificate of exemption to the conscription of the son of the general, Claude Remi Lebley. Done on February 17, 1825 in Orleans. -Journal du Loiret of December 22, 1833 with his obituary. Claude Marie Lebley, born on April 6, 1754 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), died on December 9, 1833, at the castle of Cerqueux in Josnes (Loir-et-Cher), was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire. He entered service on January 23, 1771, in the 6th regiment of foot artillery, was promoted to sergeant on May 21, 1777, and participated in the campaigns of the Americas from 1780 to 1783 under Rochambeau. He was promoted to sergeant-major on November 1, 1784, to first lieutenant on May 18, 1792, and to adjutant-major on July 15.
