RARE AND LARGE PROVISION OF GRAND-CROSS OF THE MILITARY ORDER OF SAINT LOUIS FOR SR VICTOR THERESE CHARPENTIER D'ENNERY, MARECHAL DE CAMP. On vellum. Done in Versailles on December 7, 1771. Signed " Louis ". Remains of the red wax stamp of Saint Louis 37 x 67 cm (folded). Signed by Louis François de Monteynard, minister secretary of state for the department of war. A.B.E. Victor Charpentier D'ENNERY (1732-1776). Husband of Rose-Bénédicte d'Alesso, only daughter of the Marquis d'Éragny, he was the father of Pauline Louise Françoise de Paule d'Ennery, only child, married in 1784 at the age of 13 to Pierre-Marc-Gaston de Lévis, second Duke of Lévis. She was thus heiress, at that date, of all her father's property, in particular the castle of Ennery (Val-d'Oise). An officer, he participated in the Seven Years' War and became Marshal of the King's camps and armies in 1762. He was appointed Governor of Martinique in 1765 and in 1768 Governor of the Windward Islands (West Indies). In France from 1771 to 1774, he was appointed to Saint-Domingue in 1775 as Commander General of the French Islands, Director General of the infantry, troops, fortifications and artillery of the American Colonies. He was assassinated in Port-au-Prince on December 13, 1776.
