RARE LIVING ROOM FURNITURE FROM THE CASTLE OF RAMBOUILLET comprising a pair of armchairs and a suite of qautre chairs with basket handle backs topped by pomegranates, in cream relacquered wood molded and carved with fleurons in the dices of connection. The armrests with cuff and curved decorated with acanthus leaves, the curved belt, it rests on tapered legs with asparagus curved cane. Stamped I.B BOULARD, it presents the N°7 in black stencil, the iron mark of the castle of Rambouillet R surmounted by a crown and in English letters: "For the King in Rambouillet". Louis XVI period ( chips, cracks ) A pair of chairs is upholstered with a tapestry with polychrome decoration of flowers Armchair: H: 97 cm L: 6 cm P: 56 cm Chair: H: 97 cm W: 54 cm D: 49 cm Provenance: castle of the Grange Leroy Biographies : King Louis XVI acquires for 18 million the land of Rambouillet from the duke of Penthièvre, on November 29, 1783 1 whose neighboring forest of Saint Hubert extends considerably the pleasures of His Majesty for hunting 2. The King went there only a few days a year, the Queen, in spite of the efforts of the King and d'Angivilliers to make the residence conform to her tastes, did not like it. In 1784, the year of the renovation, the King did not spend a single night in Rambouillet, one night in 1785, no more in 1787, and only in 1788 did he make about twenty trips. In 1784 Boulard delivers on the order n°79 of April 7, 1784: Will be very promptly for the Service of the King in the castle of Rambouillet the objects hereafter detailed - Know- Room and Cabinet of the King: 6 armchairs will be furnished in full, A large armchair commode with tile, closed cheeks.....and four chairs which will be furnished in full." .
