CREPIN D'APRES. "The postillion Abranstadt shows Colonel Guibert on June 1, 1773 the stone erected on the site where Gustavus Adolphus was killed. Process on panel. 12 x 8 cm. Framed under glass. A.B.E Guibert, a visionary spirit of tactics, published a General Essay on Tactics which, when it was published, had a large echo with Frederick the Great, then with the future Emperor Napoleon I. At the time of the publication of this work Guibert undertook his journey in Germany. He visited the battlefields of Gustavus-Adolphus and Frederick, and got in touch with the Swedish and Prussian generals.
