THE SIRE OF CHAVAGNAC WAS A DIGNITARY OF THE MILITARY LODGE OF BELLONE IN THE ORIENT OF THE REGIMENT OF PENTHIEVRE. 6 of the items in this set relate to his Masonic activity. CRUSSOL (Marie-François-Emmanuel, duke of). Piece signed as Grand Conservator of the Order of the Grand East, countersigned by several other dignitaries of which Alexandre ROËTTIERS DE MONTALEAU as president of the Chamber of the Provinces. S.l., November 5, 1787. Certificate of mastery. With apostille signed by dignitaries of the Lodge of Bellone including the venerable Jean-Charles de MYON. - CRUSSOL (Marie-François-Emmanuel, duke of). Signed as Grand Conservator of the Order of the Grand East, countersigned by several other dignitaries, including members of the Chamber of Grades among which Alexandre ROËTTIERS DE MONTALEAU as president. Paris, October 18, 1788. Brief for the grade of Rosicrucian. - Table of members of the Lodge of Bellone. December 27, 1788. - Table of Brother Knights of the Sovereign Regular Chapter of the Lodge of Bellone. December 30, 1788. - An esoteric drawing. - GOUVELLO (Paul de). Piece signed as venerable of the Lodge of Bellone, countersigned by several dignitary officers of the Lodge. S.l., August 6, 1790. Certificate of "perpetual associate external member" granted to Chavagnac at the time of his retirement from military life. The other documents concern mainly his career as an officer in the regiment of Penthièvre: LOUIS XVI. 2 letters signed (secretary), countersigned by Prince Alexandre-Marie-Léonor de Saint-Mauris de MONTBARREY as Minister of War. Versailles, April 4, 1778 and April 8, 1779. Appointment of cadet-gentilhomme then second lieutenant in the company of Chasseurs in the regiment of Penthièvre. - LOUIS XVI. 3 pieces signed (secretary), countersigned by the marshal Henri-Philippe de SEGUR as minister of the War.
