BEAUTIFUL COMMEMORATIVE MIRROR OF THE IMPERATRESS JOSEPHINE Silver hand mirror of oval form, surmounted by the eagle on tassels. Chiseled border with a draped frieze, decorated with flowers, back with embossed decoration in the center of the number "J" under crown surrounded by a laurel wreath and framed by two horns of plenty enriched with four medallions, two decorated with flowered wings and two decorated with helmets to the Roman. Round handle, with screw, surmounted by the eagle with spread wings on a ball, with engraved decoration of foliage, flowers and two reserves, one with the "N" in vermeil, the second with imperial crown also in vermeil. (mirror broken in the middle, small lack to one of the motifs on the back). Total height : 30,5 cm x 11 x 7 cm. Punches : -On the gold motives: eagle head punches (from 1838). -On the mirror: -Punches 1st title to the rooster (erased) and big guarantee head of old man 85 (1798-1808). -Stamp head of boar (from 1838) A.B.E. Manufacture of the 2nd part of the XIXth century. Provenance: -Old collection Bernard Franck. -Private collection. Exhibition : Our mirror is exposed to the important commemorative exhibition of 1900 " L'orfevrerie francaise aux XVIIIe et XIXe siecle " at the Arts décoratifs. It is then presented as being a work of Biennais (no doubt because of the quality of the eagles) having belonged to the Empress Josephine.
