Ø 68,10 mm (144,94 g) Very beautiful. Georges Philippar was born on October 16, 1883 in Fontenay-aux-Roses and died on February 10, 1959 in Saint-Malo. He was a French shipowner. He joined the Messageries maritimes company in 1912 and became its chairman and CEO in 1925. He also published a number of articles and literary works. In 1918, he became the general manager of "Messageries Maritimes" and became its president in 1925, succeeding Félix Roussel. With Laurent-Dominique Santoni, he founded the Société Provençale de Constructions Aéronautiques in 1925 in La Ciotat, a company dedicated to the construction of seaplanes. In 1921, he was a founding member of the new Académie de Marine and in 1929, he became a member of the Académie des sciences coloniales. In 1929, he chaired the organizing committee of the French exhibition in Cairo, Egypt. He was also president of the Armateurs de France between 1928 and 1943.
