"CHARLES-EDOUARD JEANNERET dit LE CORBUSIER... - Lot 262 - Osenat
"CHARLES-EDOUARD JEANNERET dit LE CORBUSIER (1887-1965) Etude pour Les mains no. 2 Pastel and ballpoint pen on buff paper Signed, dated and located 'Chandigarh 1 June 53 L-C' (lower right) 22.2 x 34.4 cm. Executed on June 1, 1953 Provenance: Joseph Savina's descendants. Bibliography : P. Aumasson and Y. Brand'honneur, Savina Le Corbusier, de l'art celtique à la sculpture moderne, Ed. Locus Solus, Châteaulin, 2021, p. 214, no. 208 (the present work illustrated). The present pastel is an unretained study sent to Savina for the natural wood sculpture ""The Hands"", made in 1956. It is through a series of modifications that Le Corbusier arrives at the realization that satisfies him. [He imagines that these hands are mobile and that they turn their backs, finding themselves in a way "alone in the world" as he will formulate it before sending to Savina four drawings of explanations in which he tries "to bring some rhythm by the numbers. ' (Aummasson and Brand'honneur, 2021, p. 213)."
