ITALY A pair of large circular earthenware... - Lot 262 - Osenat
ITALY A pair of large circular earthenware dishes decorated in polychrome with biblical scenes framed on the wing with attributes and foliage. Second half of the 19th century Diam: 45 cm Provenance according to old label: Château de Voisenon (77) Note: The castle belonged to the family of Fusée de Voisenon until the end of the 18th century. Lords of Voisenon since the 15th century, this family includes a famous man: Abbot Claude-Henri de Fusée de Voisenon, born in Paris in 1708 and died at the castle of Voisenon in 1775. Before the last abbot of the Jard Abbey, he was historiographer of the grandsons of Louis XV, friend of Voltaire, epicurean poet and playwright. At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle, which had kept a very pure Louis XIII style, was restored in the neo-Greek style, which it has kept after the changes made by the Marquise Des Ligneries and Mr Reithlinger. In 1930 the nuns of Nazareth settled in Voisenon and opened a boarding school for young girls. In 1940 the building was occupied by the Germans for four years. The school resumed in September 1944.
