Clock called "à la balle de coton" or "le matelot" (large model) in patinated and gilded bronze, representing a Nubian, legs crossed, holding a pipe in one hand and a rope in the other, a gourd at the waist, leaning against a cotton ball containing the enamelled dial signed Armingaud in Paris and on which are placed a purse with stacked coins. A barrel, an oar and a navy anchor are placed next to it. It rests on a rectangular base with cut sides decorated in low relief with three putti unloading, transporting and listing merchandise with an unbalanced scale, compass and feather held by a ribbon knot in appliques and finished by skids in the shape of small barrels. Early 19th century (chips on the dial, some wear, restorations) H. 39 cm W. 32 cm D. 11,5 cm Armingaud, clockmaker active in rue Meslay, and boulevard porte St Martin from 1806-1813. This model was made after a pen and watercolour drawing bearing the inscription Michel n°120 aoust 1808 kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes ( Le 30 fol).
