25. BONAPARTE (Elisa). Letter signed "Elisa"... - Lot 25 - Osenat
25. BONAPARTE (Elisa). Letter signed "Elisa" with 7 autographed words, addressed to the Secretary of State of the Imperial Family Michel-Louis-Étienne Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély. Pitti Palace [in Florence], 7 March 1811. 1 p. in-12. "I received your letter of 22 February, and the translation of the Latin verses made for the delivery of Her Majesty the Empress [Marie-Louise]. As soon as the Academy of La Crusca is established, I will propose a prize for the best Italian translation. [The Academy of La Crusca had been founded in 1582 in Florence to work for the preservation of the purity of the Tuscan language, but was abolished at the end of the 18th century. Napoleon I re-established it in 1808 and gave it autonomy in 1811]. I warn you that I have proposed you for one of the associates of this academy. I would like to have a copy of the regulations approved by the Council of State concerning the educational homes for orphan girls. Say a thousand words on my behalf to the countess and believe in my sincere attachment. [In her hand, the Grand Duchess Elisa added:] I am, Sir Count, your affectionate Elisa.
