14. BONAPARTE (Caroline). Letter signed "Caroline" to the Secretary of State of the Imperial Family Michel-Louis-Étienne Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély. Naples, May 1809. 1 p. in-4. "WHILE YOU DEEM ME CAPABLE OF FORGIVING MY FORMER FRIENDS, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED WITH LESS PLEASURE THE LAST LETTER THAT YOU ADDRESSED TO ME. It proves to me that you still retain the same feelings for me, and that you continue to value my attachment in the same way. Be sure that I will keep it as I showed it to you in Paris, and that new acquaintances will never make me lose the memory of old ones. I shall always be delighted to receive the assurances you give me of your attachment. I WOULD HAVE WISHED TO SEND YOU THE PORTRAIT THAT I PROMISED TO YOU, ISABEY IS THE ONLY CAUSE OF THE DELAY, since nearly a year since I left Paris, he has not yet sent me anything. As soon as the portrait he is in charge of reaches me, I will have the pleasure of sending it to you... ". Attached, a handwritten note from Adélaïde de La Grange addressed to the same, concerning the same subject (1 p. in-8, with autograph apostille of the addressee). Caroline Bonaparte was very friendly with the countess Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély, Adélaïde de La Grange had been lady-in-waiting of Caroline Bonaparte, and had been the mistress of prince Louis-Ferdinand of Prussia who died in 1806 fighting the French armies.
