The third daughter of Prince Eugene, Amélie-Napoléone (1812-1873) spent her childhood in Italy and then with her maternal grandfather the King of Bavaria. In 1829 she married the Brazilian emperor Peter I, widower of Marie-Léopoldine of Austria, who was the sister of the empress Marie-Louise, wife of Napoleon I, and thus the great-niece of queen Marie-Antoinette. In 1831 she had to return to Europe after her husband had to abdicate in the face of an insurrectionary situation. He then waged a dynastic war against his brother Michael I of Portugal as Duke of Braganza, and in 1834 succeeded in taking the crown in the name of his eldest daughter (from his first marriage), but died of illness a few weeks later. Amelie-Napoleone ended her life in Portugal, and was saddened to see her daughter Marie-Amélie die in 1853 when she was married to Archduke Maximilian of Austria, the future Emperor of Mexico.
