8. [BEAUHARNAIS (Eugène de)]. - STRIGELLI (Antonio). Piece signed in 5 places for a true copy as Minister Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Italy, entitled "Atti di nascita e di battesimo del principe Augusto Napoleone figlio delle Loro Altezze Imperiali il principe vicere e la principessa viceregina d'Italia" ["Birth and Baptism Certificate of Prince Augusto Napoleon, son of Their Imperial Highnesses the Prince Viceroy and the Princess Viceroy Queen of Italy"]. [1811]. Large in-4, 20 ff. on vellum, the last 5 of which are blank, calligraphy in brown ink with black and gold highlights. Binding embroidered with polychrome, silver and gilt threads, flat and in relief, with gilt and silver metallic pieces, on soft cardboard stretched in cream silk: broadly framed with vegetal scrolls on the boards with iron crown of the kingdom of Italy on the spandrels, joint coat of arms of the viceroy and his wife in the centre of the upper board, joint figure of the same in the centre of the lower board, ornamented spine, cream silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges, loose vellum quires (period binding).BIRTH AND BAPTISM OF PRINCE AUGUSTE NAPOLEON DE BEAUHARNAIS. Collection in copy of the minutes of the 5 acts issued to record these events having taken place in the royal palace of Milan, that is to say: the birth of the child on December 9, 1810, the announcement made the same day to the ministers and dignitaries of the kingdom, the vows pronounced on December 10, 1810 by the ministers and dignitaries of the kingdom, the baptism the same day, then the imposition of the name of Auguste-Napoleon on January 17, 1811. The originals were signed by Eugene de Beauharnais, by the Chancellor and Keeper of the Seals of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Melzi d'Eril (Duke of Lodi), by the Grand Chaplain Antonio Codronchi, Archbishop of Ravenna, by various ministers and dignitaries, and by Antonio Strigelli. PRINCE EUGENE'S HERITAGE: the first male child of the latter, Auguste-Napoleon de Beauharnais (1810-1835) was for a time destined to succeed him in the kingdom of Italy, and was then the second Duke of Leuchtenberg in title. After a childhood in Italy and then with his maternal grandfather, the King of Bavaria, he spent his youth in South America with his sister Amélie-Napoléone, who became Empress of Brazil. Back in Europe, he was for a few months prince consort of Portugal by his marriage in 1835 with Marie II of Portugal, but died prematurely of illness.
