FRANCE ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR, instituted... - Lot 397 - Osenat
FRANCE ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR, instituted in 1802. Rare jewel of great officer of the 1st Restoration period by Joseph CORNUDET In gold and enamel (tiny chips in the green enamel and tiny hair in the white enamel). Crown of oak leaves and laurels held in the upper part by a knot and in the lower part by a ribbon with two pendants. Center in three parts. Gold legend on a blue enamel background, on the obverse "HENRI IV KING OF FRANCE AND NAVARRE" and on the reverse "HONOUR AND PATRY". Obverse of the center with the profile of King Henry IV, head to the left, in half round, on a radiant background. Reverse side of the center with three fleurs-de-lis, each one reported, on a striated background. The star surmounted by a crown with eight branches, topped by two fleurs-de-lis. The hoop is topped by a fleur-de-lys, en suite. Smooth ring. Cock's head hallmark (1809-1819) Red moire scarf (insulated on one side) with bow. Red silk jewel fastener. T.T.B. Of great quality. This superb jewel corresponds to the ordinance that codifies the Legion of Honor during the 1stera Restoration. King's ordinance of July 19, 1814. Article 8: "The great officers will wear the grand cordon as stated in the previous article, but without a plaque. Thus the grand officers wore, like the commanders of the order of Saint Louis, the jewel with a sash, but without the plaque of the order. These provisions were not taken up again during the 100 days, and were abandoned during the Second Restoration, as confirmed by the two reductions of grand officers dispersed in this sale. It is also interesting to note that the reverse of the centre does not bear a crown, thus respecting the royal orders which only provided for the crown on the plaques.
