1954 JAGUAR XK 120 ROADSTER
Serial number: 675009 Superb condition French collector's CG On 27 October 1948, the first post-war British Motor Show opened its doors at Earls Court in London. No one was prepared for the shock of seeing a sublime bronze roadster, the revolutionary new XK 120, on the Jaguar stand. William Lyons had just set the bar high, as far as sports and production cars were concerned. 66 years later, we still look back at the roadster's stunning lines and listen with equal pleasure to the blare of that fabulous XK engine. With 6 cylinders and 2 overhead camshafts, it is a true ultra sport engine that powers this sculpture on wheels. A great success, this brand new engine will delight enthusiasts for decades to come as it evolves with the times. The XK 120's 120 comes from its top speed of 120 miles per hour or nearly 200 km/h, which was verified by The Motor magazine and the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium in 1949, both of which happily exceeded 120 MPH. The car thus had a well-deserved name, becoming one of the fastest, if not the fastest, mass-produced road cars of its time. The roadster went into production in 1949 and demand was instantaneous. In competitions around the world, XK 120s were the first to cross the finish line. Today, many XK 120s still compete in races and rallies and provide great pleasure for their drivers. Emblematic of the British revival in the immediate post-war period, the XK 120 is one of the icons of motoring history and arguably one of the most famous British cars. The car on display was purchased by the current owner in Germany in 2009. It was restored, original and working perfectly. After some time, our perfectionist enthusiast decided to completely overhaul the car to make it perfect. The engine was completely rebuilt, with valves and seats to run on unleaded. A new water pump and a new electronic igniter were installed and the radiator was professionally rebuilt with the installation of an electric fan. The starter motor and dynamo are new. The flywheel has been rectified and the starter ring gear changed. The clutch is new. The gearbox and the axle have been restored at the same time. The drive shaft and the brakes are new. A stainless steel exhaust system with thermal strips has been installed as well as an aluminium fuel tank. The owner took the opportunity to install a speedometer in km/h. Since then, 12000km have been driven without any problem. The tyres and the battery have just been replaced. With the soft top, a complete tonneau cover is present as well as the two deflectors on each side of the windscreen. This is a vehicle in perfect condition that is offered to you.
