1984 Toyota BJ 42 L.Cruiser - Lot 42
1984 Toyota BJ 42 L.Cruiser Serial number JT1V0BJ4200915853 Passe-Partout Ideal for the countryside Vintage CGF The Land Cruiser is the Defender's eternal rival. Robust, reliable and practical, the BJ42 will take you wherever you want to go. The Toyota Land Cruiser family was founded in 1951 with the FJ and BJ. The lettering indicates an off-road chassis for the "J", "F" for a petrol engine and "B" for a diesel engine. It is a very basic vehicle borrowing its parts from the Toyota truck production parts banks. In 1960, a new model arrived, the 40 series. The "BJ40" adopted a less industrial design. It was inspired by both the Jeep Willys and the Land Rover. The nomenclature is retained. The "B's" have 4 cylinder diesel engines of 3 litres of 80 hp (BJ40) then 3.4 litres of 90 hp which makes them the biggest 4 cylinders in the world (BJ42, our model). The rare "F" models have in-line 6-cylinder petrol engines of 4 litres or 4.2 litres from 1975 onwards, replacing the single 3.9 in place since 1960. As for the number following the 4, it designates the length of the chassis, from very short (40) to very long (46), the latter being able to accommodate up to eight passengers thanks to two side benches at the rear. But it also allows the engines to be classified. Thus the BJ40 and BJ42 have the same chassis length, but the former has a 3-litre, 80 hp diesel engine, while the BJ42 (our model) gains 10 hp from the 3.4-litre engine. Our Toyota's playground is not really the motorway. Our franchiser is a great tractor for towing a big caravan or a boat. More at ease on dirt roads, it is a formidable off-roader, withstanding a maximum slope of 46°! Its torquey engines allow it to overcome obstacles without forcing itself. Almost unbreakable, there is no need to worry about how it will be treated. Thanks to its archaic design, it is easy to dismantle and repair yourself. The braking system of our example has been recently revised. Our BJ42 is therefore in good condition and works well. The Land Cruiser has quickly conquered Africa, so you will only have to make a mockery of the French country roads, and you will stand out from the banal Defender.
