1994 ROVER 214i CABRIOLET
Serial number SAXXWMBHNAD67908 Four-seater convertible at a low price Extremely rare in France The second generation Rover 200 was released in 1989. Designed with the help of the Japanese manufacturer Honda, 80% of the parts are common to the Honda Concerto. From 1986, it was offered in six body styles. Initially a five-door saloon, the 200 series was offered in four-door (in 1990) and three-door (in 1991) versions before the appearance of coupe and cabriolet variants (in 1992) and an estate (in 1994), actually based on the Rover 400. It was during the design of the 200 series that Rover developed the new K series petrol engines, the result of a heavy investment of nearly £250 million, which would gradually equip almost all of the manufacturer’s models and serve as the basis for the future V6 engine. The second generation 200 series is emblematic of Rover productions in that it is the brand’s «greatest commercial success» with almost 950,000 units produced, while representing a form of culmination of the association with Honda initiated a few years earlier. Relax, it’s a Rover» was Rover’s slogan in the 1990s. The 214 convertible is a perfect illustration of this. With its 4-cylinder, 16-valve, 1.4-litre, twin-cam engine, it could surprise many of its contemporaries at the traffic lights. That said, this car is ideal for cruising the French beach roads with originality, a surfboard on the back and hair in the wind. It is equipped with front disc brakes and two airbags for safety. On the inside, the electric windows and the touch of wood on the dashboard remind us of British chic. Unfortunately, the varnish of our car is flaking, so a coat of paint is to be considered in order to drive with class and non-conformism in this charming little English car.
