Pair of chased bronze, gilded and silvered "dragon" horns. Depicting fantastic animals with their mouths open and wings spread, perched on a sphere, all on a three acanthus leaf base. The irons are missing. Signed Victor PAILLARD (1805 - 1886) About 1860 H: 38 cm Note: Victor Paillard designed and made various decorative and functional objects in bronze, including lights and clocks. He also cast bronzes for some of the most important sculptors of the time, including Barye, Carrier-Belleuse and Pradier. He opened his first workshop in the 1830s in Paris, and by the 1850s he employed about 100 people. His success at numerous international exhibitions, including the Great Exhibition of 1851, further enhanced his reputation.
