Nobukazu Watanabe (1874-1944) - Battle of Fujikawa , Japan - Tryptic of prints signed , 37,5 x 76,5 cm + frame - Publisher : Takekawa Seikichi, date: 1897 - The samurai warrior Kinoshita Tokichiro, later known as Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi, fights against Ito Hyuga no Kami on a white horse in the Fuji river. Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537- 1598) was the second of the three unifiers of Japan during the Sengoku period. Of modest origin, he attained absolute power over the whole of Japan by unifying it and trying to pacify it. In this portrait, he appears under the name Kinoshita Tokichiro, when he was still a young samurai.
