1964 JAGUAR TYPE E Série 1 3,8L
1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE Series 1 3.8L Serial number 880728 Service record French registration Extremely rare original hard-top The Jaguar E-Type was introduced at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Media excitement was at its peak," the brand reminds us, "the short ride offered to journalists was such a hit that Jaguar's founder, Sir Williams Lyons, realised that one car was not enough. He ordered a test driver to leave immediately for Jaguar's Coventry workshops and return to Switzerland at night in another E-Type. Legend also has it that Enzo Ferrari, on seeing the Jaguar E-Type for the first time, said, "This is the most beautiful car in the world. The sublime English car is like that: an object of myth, legend, stories and memories. The first encounter with such a machine has left many with lasting memories. Its sensual, sleek lines have earned it a place in the MOMA in New York as a true work of art. Because it is the purest, the most authentic, and also the wildest, the first series E-Type in its 3.8-litre version is the most sought-after by collectors. This very first model escaped the avatars that a generation rich in multiple variants would later know. Unfortunately, most of the time, cars with a long career fall victim to various reworks and additions. The E-Type is a child's dream. It was designed by the engineer W.M. Heynes, and its sporting kinship with the D-Types is indisputable. The E-Type was intended as a replacement for the XK, but translated Jaguar's sporting experience and Cunningham's success at the 1960 Le Mans 24 Hours into a touring car. The car's flowing lines, aggressive snout and swept-back rear end create a virile, cat-like profile: 7,827 were built. The car presented here is a Series 1 with a 3.8 litre engine from the 1964 model year. The car has its original hard top. Its condition is not "concours" which makes it natural, accessible and desirable. Its current owner, a fine connoisseur of cars (Alfa SZ and SVZ among others having no secrets for him) took possession of it in 2015 and has only driven about 2,000km. Its previous owner had owned it since 1985, a mark of the great affection he had for it. It has therefore been treated with extreme care over the last 40 years. It was used in the summer to buy bread and coffee on the French Riviera, then in the winter it was brought back to Paris, to the Jackie Jag garage, which took care of it (rolling, replacement of worn parts, ...) until spring arrived, when the virtuous circle towards the South started again. This car has benefited from many recent new parts, and is ready to give a smile to its new owner.
