C1971 CITROËN SM
Carburettor version To be restarted French registration Launched in March 1970 and based on the DS platform, the SM had the misfortune to be born in a difficult period for big cars. Developed in part with Maserati, the SM was particularly ahead of its time with a remarkable design and a hydropneumatic suspension system dear to the company. Although one could think that the engine was directly derived from the Maserati Indy's V8, to which two cylinders had been removed. However, it turns out that the engine of the production SM was developed from scratch. With 6 cylinders placed in a V shape, the SM engine developed 170 horsepower at 5500 rpm on the 1970 to 1972 models equipped with carburetors. The 1973 model was equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection, increasing its power to 178 hp, while increasing the torque and reducing the consumption of Her Majesty Citroën. Equipped with four disc brakes with hydraulic control and assistance, a Diravi power steering, directional headlamps, the whole offering a CX of only 0.339, the SM had everything to succeed! Unfortunately, the oil crisis and the reliability problems encountered by the SM put an end to its career in 1975 after only 12,920 cars were produced. This Citroën SM is a carbureted version. Stored under cover, it will need to be restarted. The car has the rare optional RGP aluminium rims. It will be sold without a registration document.
