1987 AUSTIN-ROVER MINI PARK LANE
SERIAL NUMBER SAXXL2S1021337092 LIMITED EDITION of 4000 COPIES REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE "CLASSIC VEHICLE 71,800 ORIGINAL KILOMETRES - FRENCH REGISTRATION The history of the Austin Mini began in 1959 with the rise of British pop culture. Considered as the British icon of the 60's, this charming little city car combined practicality, reliability and driving pleasure. The production of the Mini phase 1 speaks for itself: 5.3 million units produced between 1959 and 2000. Far from doubting the commercial success of this front-engined compact, the Austin, BMC, Morris or Rover teams quickly had fun developing different versions. From the Cooper and Cooper S to the Clubman, there was something for every taste and use. In 1985, Austin launched its famous and recognizable "London" versions with the Picadilly, the Mayfair and the Ritz. These chic city car models remind us of our French models such as the Renault Clio 1 Baccara or the Peugeot 205 Gentry. This is a specific segment where small compact cars are dressed up: a specific colour, more luxurious interiors, chrome, badges with the name of the version on the body and in the cabin, reworked wheels... What a way to stand out from the crowd with an ordinary car. Our Austin-Rover Mini "Park Lane" was one of the 4000 examples to leave the Rover workshops. Of these 4000 examples, 1500 were destined for the British market, 700 for the Japanese market and 800 for export. This version, evocative of London's Mayfair and Hyde Park districts, is distinguished by its glossy black colour and gold decoration (it was also available in red and cream decoration). It features gold "Park Lane" logos on the boot and doors, matt black rear-view mirrors and fender flares, chrome bumpers and door handles, and almost solid wheel covers on steel rims. On the interior side, the Park Lane has an interior in harmony with its exterior color, black and beige seats with Park Lane badges, beige seat belts, tinted windows and a stereo cassette radio; very classy for its time! The Austin-Rover Mini "Park Lane" is equipped with the standard engine of the Mini 1000 of 998 cm3 giving it a power of 42 horses for only 630 kg on the scale. This makes the Mini a light and flexible little bombshell. The 4 speed manual gearbox is very efficient and allows the driver to take full advantage of the impressive power to weight ratio of our city car. Our example was acquired by the current owner in April 2019 and presents itself in good overall condition, the bodywork and interior appear very well maintained and preserved. Its 71,000 original km make this old car still fresh and waiting to be driven. Our road test showed the good working order of the vehicle which still promises great sensations. An ideal car for the city as well as the countryside, as rich in sensations as it is in history. In its Park Lane version, it will seduce all lovers of the "Pop-Rock chic" of sixties London.
