1959 ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA SPIDER VELOCE
Type 750 F Serial number AR149506301 Engine number 00106-20780 Genuine short chassis - Hard Top Extensive mechanical preparation Italian racing passport The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was launched in 1954 and presented at the Turin Motor Show in a two-seater sedan version. A light car with a short wheelbase and powered by a 4-cylinder engine developing 80 horsepower with an aluminium block, cylinder head and crankcase, it was a real success and positioned itself slightly above its competitors: the Fiat 1100 and the Lancia Appia thanks to its 1300cc capacity. Beautiful, elegant, racy, the adjectives that qualified this Alfa Spider at its release by the journalists are the same today and the recipe of a light cabriolet with a nervous engine still works because this model is very much sought after by collectors and places the Spider as a "must have". The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider is identified in the book on the Italian firm by Luigi Fusi, the chassis number of this spider Giulietta Veloce attests that it is a real short version Tipo 750F or "passo corto" in Italian. The weathered appearance of this convertible confirms its racing history, from 1963 and the San Remo Automobile Club rally to 2006 when it won the Italian national championship on asphalt. Mechanically, this Veloce version carries its 1300 cc engine which was prepared by the Gamberini workshops to produce more than 120 horsepower for a reduced weight thanks to the replacement of the windows with plexiglass, a lighter and modified interior and windows. It has been modified with a 5 speed Mille Miglia gearbox, Alfine aluminium brakes which were recently revised, a new axle and a new fuel tank. With a revised engine, a racing look and an important mechanical preparation, this desirable Giulietta is a good way to differentiate itself from other collectors thanks to its specific short chassis and its hard-top.
