1968 CITROËN DS 21 CABRIOLET IVANOFF
SERIAL NUMBER 4616982 DS 21 REBODIED BY IVANOFF NICE CONDITION - NEW UPHOLSTERY FRENCH REGISTRATION The Citroën DS, a real bomb at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, revolutionized the world of cars. Apart from the engine taken from the Traction, the DS innovated in almost everything: high pressure braking, fully hydraulic suspension, power steering... The very special design of its bodywork is due to the pencil of the in-house stylist, the incredible Flaminio Bertoni, who also designed the 2CV, the "Belphégor" and the Traction. The DS has become timeless and has never really been surpassed. This incredible Citroën is still going strong with a technology that is more than half a century old. Its comfort is still surprising as much for its seats as for its hydraulic suspension. The braking, incredible at the time, is still very efficient. All these qualities mean that despite its age, the DS is still very comfortable in today's traffic. In 1958, Henri Chapron, a French coachbuilder, was chosen by Citroën to design and build the factory convertible. His creations were to become collector's items. The factory cabriolet followed the technical evolution of the saloon, and existed in DS 19 (1960-1965), DS 21 (1965-1971) and DS 21 electronic injection (1969- 1970) versions. If the Citroën DS saloon represented from 1955 onwards the French top of the range in the minds of all, what can be said of its cabriolet version? Well, its versions! That said, whether in unofficial versions (Croisette, Caddy, Palm Beach or Cabriolet, 236 of which were produced between 1958 and 1972) or in "factory" versions, all the DS cabriolets worth mentioning were made by one and the same "manufacturer": Henri Chapron. It was Chapron's "unofficial" creations that put Citroën on the road to an official version, integrated into the range and distributed through the network. Two years after the presentation of the Croisette and Cabriolet, Citroën launched the DS Cabriolet (in August 1960) and its less "technological" ID version. At its launch, the DS 19 Cab had a 4-cylinder 1.9 litre 75 bhp engine, while the ID had the same engine but less powerful (63 bhp), but very quickly, both models received the same engine developing 83 bhp. The Ivanoff version follows the conversion principle initiated by Chapron. This renowned coachbuilder was at the time one of the references in DS conversion. His homologated re-bodies allowed a proper transformation of a DS sedan into a convertible. Our car is presented in an almost "competition" condition with a blank TC of March 2021, an official expertise report attesting to its very good aesthetic condition, new tyres and its original set of tools, jack and spare wheel. In its navy blue color, interior and night blue top, this DS 21 cabriolet is distinguished by its tasteful elegance. The bodywork and running gear have been refurbished, repainted and treated. The start-up is easy and our test drive showed that the gear shifts were smooth thanks to the semi-hydraulic gearbox, the steering precise and the braking efficient. This DS Cabriolet has been redesigned with a certain taste for elegance; very comfortable and endearing, it will delight its next owner. This was the best France had to offer in terms of cars in the late 1960s.
