1955 Studebaker President Speedster
4,2L V8 ENGINE - AUTOMATIC GEARBOX ONLY 2215 PRODUCED FRENCH COLLECTOR'S LICENCE The Studebaker President has always been one of the flagship models of the American firm Studebaker Corporation. Destined to become a simple "show car" limited to 20 examples to glorify the image of the manufacturer on international car shows, the public's enthusiasm decided otherwise. Production of the top-of-the-range President was abandoned in 1942, but resumed in 1955 in response to public enthusiasm. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a commercial failure due to its high price for the time. In terms of aesthetics, the President Speedster has nothing to envy to its competitors across the Atlantic at the time; elegant and streamlined with its elongated lines, we recognize here the pencil stroke of the Bourke-Loewy team. The Speedster finish was a sportier and more luxurious version than the basic Commander and President models. The performance of this model is worthy of the American cars of the time, a large displacement, an engine with a round and fat sound: the famous V8 Passmaster promises a trip across continents and decades. On the President Speedster model, the 185 horsepower "Wildcat" variant is mounted in the front-center position. For its time, this version offered exceptional performance with a 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds and a top speed of 185 km/h. Our model was imported new in February 1955 in Belgium. It is presented in a typical orange and white paint scheme of the time and is in good condition. Due to its rarity and its special status, the Speedster is today one of the most sought-after Studebakers on the collector's market. It is indeed a singular car with a unique look that will undoubtedly remind many collectors of the Dinky Toys of their childhood. Our road test demonstrated the reliability of the vehicle, the automatic gearbox shifts very smoothly for the time, as for the engine sound, it instantly plunges us in the post-war America. The paint and chrome are also in a very good state of preservation. The same goes for the interior, which is worthy of a real living room and immerses us in absolute comfort.
