1966 TRIUMPH TR4A IRS
DRAWING BY MICHELLOTI CLEAR HISTORY - RECENT TECHNICAL CONTROL NUMEROUS RESTORATIONS DONE FRENCH COLLECTOR'S REGISTRATION CARD Launched in august 1961, the Triumph TR4 is in the line of the small sporty English roadsters, with a pleasant driving style, not very expensive to buy and to use. Technically, the TR4 was based on proven principles: chassis with side members and rear axle with rigid axle and leaf springs. However, in order to appeal to a wider public, the British engineers added some comfort features such as the rising windows, a soft top with a roll bar that is easier to deploy and a rack and pinion steering. The 2.2L engine already present on the TR3, accompanied here by two SU carburetors, allows the rider to experience real sporty sensations magnified by the raucous sound coming from the exhausts. The TR4 takes its classic and robust separate chassis from its predecessor, whose tracks have been widened (but the wheelbase remains reasonably short), just like its engine. The real novelty is in the aesthetics and comfort of the car. At the dawn of the 60's, it is clear that in the eyes of the customers, the archaic lines of the TR 3 outweighed the charm of its old-fashioned character. Michelotti's rejuvenation of the design evokes the style of the 1960 Le Mans cars, but the young stylist has created a superb baroque ensemble, whose originality gives the car a lot of character. In a word, a little masterpiece! The profile is striking with its massive flanks and straight lines like the square wheel arches. This silhouette makes the TR4 a virile car. The very expressive front end is dominated by the strength of the look, underlined by the imposing size of the front bumper. The most sought-after model by collectors, the TR4A equipped with the IRS independent rear suspension was designed to keep up with its competitors. These technical modifications gave the car extra comfort and better handling. First registered in 1966, this Triumph TR4A IRS is now presented in a beautiful state. The white paint is stretched all over the body while the black skai upholstery has a nice patina without any hole or tear. If the varnish on the wooden dashboard tends to be missing, all the dashboard elements work. Our car is sold with a file detailing the restoration done (with pictures) and a technical control dated March 2021. The bodywork, the gearbox and the engine have been completely rebuilt. The consideration of its elements as well as our road test allow us to determine the reliability and the quality of conservation of this vehicle which only asks to roll and express its potential of sporting roadster. Ideal for the beautiful days ahead, this English roadster is a nice asset to add to your collection or a good start for a collection in the making.
