1925 HOTCHKISS AM
Chassis no. 8900 French Title Originally a manufacturer of weapons and ammunition, notably the 75 mm gun, the Hotchkiss company represented France with dignity in the construction of quality cars from 1904 to 1955. The brand with the crossed barrels is known for the robustness and the reliability of its mechanics. The factory was based in Saint-Denis, north of Paris. After the Great War, Hotchkiss cleverly positioned itself in a niche market that was not very popular. It should be noted that most brands supplied either 8 to 10 hp cars or 15 to 20 hp cars. It was almost to fill a gap that Hotchkiss took on the 12-13 hp segment with its AM model and achieved enormous commercial success. Its 2,413 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine was reputed to be "puncture-proof" and very hard-working, "swallowing" the kilometres without suffering. The 12cv Hotchkiss became a reference in a very short time. The rather middle-class clientele liked its build quality, comfort and discretion. The AM model was the brand's flagship car from 1923 to 1925 and the AM2 succeeded it from 1926 to 1933. It was the AM model that gave rise to the famous slogan "the brand of the middle ground", which was to remain with Hotchkiss until the end of passenger car production. In sporting terms, the model won numerous road races in 1924 and 1925. Our car is equipped with a very nice original "factory" torpedo body. This body has good dimensions with a double windscreen. Robust and well built, the chassis is equipped with four large brakes and RAF type 820 x 120 spoked wheels. This model represents one of the sure values of the 20/25 years. It is a proven model that does not disappoint. Pleasant and comfortable, a Hotchkiss AM is a powerful car that invites to travel, whatever the distance. Very spacious, the car will never be short of room for luggage or friends. It is certainly the ideal car for rallies.
