The Emperor Napoleon I, in a frontal bust,... - Lot 84 - Osenat
The Emperor Napoleon I, in a frontal bust, in coronation dress. Velvet "Grégoire" with oval view. Under glass, enriched with an engraving of the King of Rome on the back "I pray to God for my father and for France". 22 x 16 cm. Gilded wooden frame with a palmette surmounted by a flowered crown. A.B.E. First quarter of the 19th century. At the end of the 18th century, Gaspard Grégoire (Aix en Provenance, October 20, 1751 - May 12, 1846) developed a process allowing painting directly on the silk threads (before weaving). His productions, portraits or subjects, always of small dimensions, constitute a particular kind of miniature. Bibliography: ALGOUD Henri, Gaspard Grégoire et ses Velours d'Art, ed. Société française d'imprimerie et de librairie, 1908, Paris.
