1985 RENAULT 5 TURBO 2
Serial number VF1822000e0001115 Consistent record from the beginning with purchase order and purchase invoice Quality preparation French registration While the Renault R5 was a great success in the 1970's, and was derived in multiple 3 or 5 door versions, under the acronyms L, TL, GTL or even Alpine, the idea germinated in the heads of some executives of the firm with the diamond, to make a more radical version. This is the beginning of the 822 project, which will become, in small series, the Renault R5 Turbo. The objective: to homologate the R5 for the demanding Group 4 category. Designed by Marc Deschamps and Marcello Gandini, the Turbo's bodywork was intended to be extreme and caused a sensation in 1978 when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Produced until September 1982, the first R5 Turbo gave way to the Turbo 2. Thus, the R5 Turbo was equipped with more sober bodywork and interior colours, nevertheless, it kept the mechanics of its predecessor, that is to say: a 4-cylinder 1.4L fed by a Garett T3 turbocharger and fed by a Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection, the whole delivering 160 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and weighing no more than a ton. The R5 Turbo has now become a car myth, like all the versions developed for rally homologation! This car was delivered new on March 11, 1985 by the Renault Alpine dealership in Boulogne Billancourt, as shown on the order form and the purchase invoice. It was kept for 10 years by its first owner and maintained at the dealership, as shown by the file of invoices that accompanies it over 36 years. This R5 Turbo 2 was resold in June 1996 to the second owner, it had then 75,700 kms, this latter replaced the original rims by Tramont (for an invoice of 15314 francs). Thirteen years later and 10,000 km later (84,000 km) he sold it to the current owner. It is at this time that the modifications are made by the Poudrel Racing establishments: removal of the engine / complete rebuilding (forged pistons, valves, camshafts, injection, turbo, clutch, carbon pads, running gear...). Everything is revised for a final power of about 220hp. On the inside, buckets and a roll bar have been installed. Note that the carpets and several original elements are kept, specific controls to the competition were installed for an optimal use of the cockpit.
