1978 MINI 1100 ESTATE COUNTRYMAN
Serial number 199890B Complete documented restoration Model 1978 backdated French registration The Countryman is one of the most attractive and sought after versions of the Austin Mini. Launched in 1961, it was designed for gentlemen-farmers and urbanites who wanted to be different. The uprights are decorated with varnished wood of the most beautiful effect. Unlike the Morris Traveler, the wood elements of the Mini Countryman are purely decorative and are in fact a nod to American woodies. The wheelbase has been extended by 10 cm and the rear seat is now foldable to provide more cargo space. This version was a great success: more than 200,000 were produced until 1969. Thereafter, the Mini station wagons lost their wooden facings but kept a similar structure to the first examples. This Mini 1100 Estate was born in February 1978, it is a type XC 2. Its current owner acquired the car in 2017 and undertook an important restoration. The body was stripped for a total rebuild. The paint was redone inside and outside in glossy grey, during this time, the body was "aged" with MK.1 type hinges and door handles, the front grille was replaced by a wavy pattern reminding the first Mini, and a wooden cladding was applied on the rear of the car. The interior was redone in high quality red leatherette and a Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel was added. The engine was also restored, as well as all its peripherals, including the gearbox. The running gear was fitted with new silent-blocks, shock absorbers and bearings. The electrical system was completely rebuilt. The Mini is today in a near new condition, its paint offers a very nice rendering, as well as its woodwork and its interior. The engine doesn't show any oil leak and the engine compartment looks good. At the wheel, the Mini behaves well, the engine and the gearbox show a normal operation, as well as the running gear which does not show any noticeable failure. We could see the undercarriages of the car during a technical inspection and found them to be in good condition, without any trace of corrosion. The car will be sold with a set of pictures of the restoration follow-up and an expertise estimating its value at 29 500 €. It is an extremely attractive car that we are presenting today, meeting with great success with passers-by and whose aged appearance is in perfect harmony with the reliability of a more recent model.
