1960 MASERATI 3500 GT TOURING SUPERLEGGERA
Serial number 101.1170 Engine 101.1170 Matching numbers Rare original condition Italian circulation title If the A6s built from 1947 to 1957 appear to be the first production Maseratis, the 3500 GT marks the transition of the brand to a new period in its history, that of series production. Launched to compete with Ferrari, particularly on the American market, the 3500 GT offered the manufacturer its first major commercial success. Its historic role is all the greater as it will allow the firm to ensure its survival at a time when it is once again threatened. Derived from the mechanics of the Maserati 350 S - a competition model - the 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts and dual ignition was designed by Giulio Alfieri. With its 220 hp, it gives the 3500 GT a top speed of around 230 km/h. Round and smooth, this resourceful engine shines with its flexibility. Its long stroke and 32 mkg of torque give it a wide range of use. This excellent availability contributes greatly to the pleasure of driving the 3500 GT. Far from being a race car, it appears as a powerful, comfortable and agile grand tourer. Many coachbuilders have worked on the 3500 GT's chassis. Allemano, Bertone and Frua offer their own interpretations of the coupe, Frua and Touring do the same for the convertible version - both very successful cars. This Maserati 3500 GT was delivered in November 1960 to a certain Adolfo Maggi. It was then owned by Mr. Tihomir Miur and later by Enzo Manchi. In 1963, Mr Lorenzo Palma bought the beautiful Italian car and it is with him, in Turin, that it spent the rest of its life, a good part of which was stored, dry and sheltered. Thus, it finds the light today, in a rare original state. The car is thus in a very healthy aspect, the body and its white paint are patinated but do not present any major defect except a slight shock at the left rear, nevertheless, the alignments are good. Its red leather interior is complete, with a patina, it needs some repairs but could be kept for the most part. Of course, the 3.5 litre six cylinder engine needs to be restarted, but it is not blocked, fed by its Weber carburetors. Above all, the car would have covered only 54,974 kilometers during its life, which makes it a very interesting base for a restoration project! Maserati 3500 GT Touring Superleggera are rare, finding one that has never been touched is even rarer. This is an excellent and authentic ticket to the world of Italian Grand Touring of the 1950s-1960s.
