1915 REO THE FITFH DOUBLE-PHAETON
Serial number T4142 Only 4 known examples in the world Four cylinder engine 3.7L - 23HP Important history file French collector's licence It is in 1904 that the Reo firm is created, from the initials of its founder, Ransom Eli Olds. Its first creation with an 8CV engine was tested by the founder himself during more than 2 000 miles before being presented at the New-York show of 1905. The same year 1905 is presented a twin-cylinder of 16CV. In 1906, Reo presents a four cylinder, the Reo Four 24CV. In 1911, Reo presents and markets the Reo the Fifth, the fifth model of the brand. Powered by a 3.7L four-cylinder engine and equipped with a four-speed gearbox, the Fifth was particularly modern and efficient in its time. This Reo The Fifth bears the number T4142. It was launched in 1915 under its Double Phaeton bodywork. We trace its history back to the 1960s, when it was owned by the Vintage Motor Museum in Mobile. There, it was acquired by Clarence and Wilma Bredt from Alabama in 1979. They had their new car restored. Afterwards, the Reo was regularly used by the couple at AACA events, winning no less than 13 first places in competition. It was also present at the annual Seville Square rally in September 1989, again taking first place, particularly as it was identical to General Pershing's World War I Staff Car. In total, Clarence and Wilma Bredt drove their Fifth nearly 10,000 miles, collecting numerous photos, press articles and other technical documents to add to the car's complete file. It was in 2015 that its current owner, an American car enthusiast, acquired it. The car has not changed since its restoration in 1979 and is still in very nice condition. Its dark blue paint shows some marks of time but still offers a beautiful rendering, as well as its leather upholstery and its canvas top. Its mechanics are well maintained and still work very well, its owner having participated in several rallies at its wheel, even allowing himself to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h. It is thus a rare car that we present today for sale, an elegant American-style torpedo from the beginning of the last century that has so many stories to tell!
